Drumming up (YouTube playlist) some memories today. A mishmash of some fave early to mid-90s jungle. There isn’t really a beginning, middle or end – just get rolling from any point. Wanted to work in Photek’s ‘Hidden Camera’ because I remember that heavy piece of wax hitting the airwaves one evening and suddenly feeling that this particular era in music that I knew had reached an endpoint of sorts (in retrospect, ‘Hidden Camera’ also functions as a kind of clinically programmed clarion call for CCTV’s breakthrough into the big time within the fabric of UK street life).
Jungle remains my first real musical education and London was its classroom. The feel of the concrete beneath your feet, travel card in hand and buzz of the pirates in the air. The place to be.
